sbr volume 19 - Johnny Joestar 1

I finally finished my volume 19 cover version Johnny Joestar cosplay! I wore it at San Japan 2012 in San Antonio, Texas, and this is the first of several photos I'm planning on posting. Being a radioactive pastel easter egg cupcake american flag monstrosity is fun!

Making this cosplay was an exercise in "ways to hate myself". It used five different types of spandex, each its own unique weight and sheen, along with a golden faux suede for the feather. The bodysuit pattern and undershirt pattern were drafted from scratch and "connected" to a pair of covered cowboy boots. Each one of the stars and stripes (haha stars and stripes lol) was individually sewn on via the spandex appliqué technique. There ended up being over 150 stars individually cut out and applied! I sculpted and painted the horseshoe, painted the horse head silhouette, and made flexible hollow 3D plastic hearts covered in matching fabric. The feather's kind of last minute and I hope to replace it before doing further photoshoot time. This made my old Johnny look like a cakewalk, and I'm so glad that all I have left to do now is touchups!
